One of Lyndhurst’s most popular family programs returns this spring to once again bring fun, dynamic activities to kids interested in architecture, engineering, and design. The weekend’s events include the interactive creation of a 3D village using recycled materials, massive LEGO® sculptures, robotics battles, scavenger hunts along Lyndhurst’s historic property, crafts, food, and entertainment. The event runs from 10 am to 4 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is just $8 for kids and $10 for adults and tickets are available for purchase online before the event and at the Welcome Center on the day of. Lyndhurst is teaming up with ArchForKids, a local organization that provides exciting, interdisciplinary programming to teach children engineering principles with hands-on projects. Children and adults are invited to join in the creation of a 3D-village using recycled boxes and supplies. We’ll need houses, shops, schools, hospitals, taverns and more. Then put the structures together to make an entire Gothic Revival style village. Held outdoors in the carriage house courtyard, this activity gets kids to practice problem solving, basic city planning and architectural concepts, and above all, creativity. Younger children are invited to take part an imagination playground with big blocks set in front of Lyndhurst’s historic Rose Cottage playhouse. Available to the whole family are crafts, scavenger hunts, food, entertainment, and tours of the historic mansion which will feature LEGO® sculptures built by local kids. Everyone’s invited to join in the theme of building a village together through teamwork and ingenuity. BE AN EXHIBITOR! Already have a mini-engineer in the family? Kids are invited to submit their LEGO® sculptures for display within the Lyndhurst Mansion. Exhibitors and 2 family members get in to Design & Build weekend for free. This is an exciting opportunity for LEGO® loving kids to showcase their work among their peers. Get more info and register your kid to exhibit online at www.lyndhurst.org/lego by April 7. Kids are also invited to construct LEGO® sculptures on-site in the historic Carriage House.
