Pedaling with Edward Hopper by Mike Hays

Held in conjunction with “Edward Hopper’s Hudson River Boyhood and Emerging Artistic Vision.”
Mike Hays, a cyclist and local history columnist, explores Hopper’s teenage years in the 1890s when he and throngs of men and women embraced the sport for health and transportation. Hays will explore what made Hopper’s own bike special, his early drawings of cyclists, and the artist’s fascination with the popular Madison Square 6-day bicycle races of the 1930s and his painting “French Six-Day Bicycle Rider” (1937).
