City of Yonkers – Waterfront Esplanade Park

Yonkers has enjoyed notable revitalization in recent years, including new residential development along the waterfront, new film studios nearby (earning the city the “Hollywood on Hudson” moniker), a full calendar of community events, destination dining and shops, and a more walkable, vibrant downtown. At the Hudson River end of Main Street is Esplanade Park (dedicated as the Alfred B. DelBello Riverwalk in 2015).   and the historic Yonkers Pier

The Esplanade offers the opportunity for a waterfront stroll against the backdrop of the dramatic cliffs of the Palisades and downriver views of the George Washington Bridge and Manhattan skyline. There are public sculptures to admire, while . riverview restaurant options include X20 Xaviars, Dolphin Seafood, and TaqueRio Taco Bar. Seasonal concerts and art exhibitions make the Esplanade a lively destination.

One of the most exciting annual events in and around the waterfront is Yonkers RiverFest, produced by the Yonkers Downtown BID.  In 2023, RiverFest is scheduled for September 23 from 12 noon to 7:00pm, This local festival brings together more than 15, 000 people with its broad appeal as it celebrates community. It’s a great time to gather with friends and family to listen to music from every era and to sample delicious foods. Enjoy inspired performances from jazz and soul to hip-hop, rock and more.

Visitors who stroll a few blocks north to Dock Street can then walk along Van Der Donck Park and the newly “daylighted” Saw Mill River, to reach the Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site. Itself newly renovated, Philipse Manor Hall offers a remarkable window into Yonkers’ history.

The Esplanade is just a short walk from the Yonkers Metro-North Train station. click here for more info on pier use, parking, and a map.
