Village of Briarcliff – North County Trailway
The North County Trailway picks up where the South County [INSERT PAGE LINK] leaves off, continuing on the “Old Put” former commuter rail corridor another 22.1 miles from Eastview in the Town of Mt. Pleasant to Putnam County.
The paved flat route is ideal for biking, inline skating, walking, and even seasonally for cross country skiing; it is also wheelchair accessible.
The portion through Briarcliff Manor passes the handsome Tudor-style Briarcliff Manor Library, a good place to park and one of the original 23 railroad depots. The depot was built in 1909 by the founder of the village, Walter Law, and was decommissioned in the late 1950s when the passenger line ceased. The town purchased the building for $12,500 and converted it into a library. In 2009, work was completed on a major expansion to house many more books and activities for the popular space.
The trail from here north runs parallel to and sometimes zigzags the Saw Mill River Road and the Pocantico River. Users are advised to keep to the right with no motorized vehicles allowed.
