Haverstraw – Haverstraw Beach State Park and Emeline Park
Haverstraw Beach State Park claims 73 acres on the northernmost end of the preserved parcel that includes Rockland Lake State Park (with a huge new water complex, tennis, pickleball and golf), Hook Mountain State Park, and Nyack Beach State Park.
Like Nyack Beach, this is not a swimming beach, but primarily offers trails for hiking, biking, and dog-walking with the Hudson as the primary focal point.
The park is just north of the Rockland Lake golf course, on the east side of Route 9W. The Hook Mountain/Nyack Beach Bikeway continues through the park.
A little bit of history with names you might know: In 1780, American General Benedict Arnold and the British spy John André exchanged the plans to overtake West Point here. A stone marker identifies the place where André landed. This site, the location of an early town named Snedeker's Landing, was also known as the oldest shipyard in Rockland County.
Within the Village of Haverstraw, consider a visit to Emeline Park. The park is set on the Village's southernmost point along the waterfront and offers sweeping views of the Hudson River. Within the park, residents and visitors are able to enjoy gazebo space, playgrounds, and walking trails alongside the river. Adjacent to the park is the popular and lively waterfront restaurant, Don Coqui.
