February 5, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeBeethoven: From Classicism to Romanticism
Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra presents a program of beloved works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Cherubini, with Guest Conductor Andrés Rivas.
Cherubini’s Concert Overture is an exhilarating curtain raiser, capturing the energy and drama of opera. Mendelssohn’s popular Hebrides Overture “Fingal’s Cave” was inspired by the composer’s visit to a remote Scottish island. Beethoven’s Romance no. 2 in F features the lyrical melodies and virtuosity of Beethoven’s earlier works To conclude the program, the orchestra performs Beethoven’s magnificent Third Symphony, “Eroica”, a revolutionary work in its time, written at a major turning point in Beethoven’s life and career as he dealt with his growing deafness. Into this music, Beethoven poured his passion, fury and anguish with a depth of musical expression that moves away from his roots in the classical and baroque styles and into the Romantic era.
Admission Free – All are welcome!
