Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge Shared Use Path
Fully opened to traffic in 2018, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge is a state-of-the art, twin-span bridge across the Hudson River, connecting Rockland and Westchester counties. The cable-stayed span crosses one of the widest parts of the Hudson and at three miles, is the longest bridge in New York State.
The bridge’s shared use path opened to bicyclists and pedestrians in 2020. The 3.6-mile path, with its six overlooks and amenities at each landing – offers an exciting and unique recreational experience. Whether you are walking or biking across, you’ll be treated to extraordinary Hudson River views. You can also immerse yourself in the rich history of the Hudson Valley at six themed overlooks along the path:
- Fish & Ships celebrates the waterfront history of the Nyacks, highlighting the shipbuilding industry and diverse marine life off their shores
- Highlighting the unique geology of the region, Palisades evokes the namesake cliffs rising steeply above the western bank of the river
- Inspired by the storied Hudson River School art movement, Painters Point celebrates the artist in all of us
- River Crossing pays homage to the historic Tappan Zee Bridge and the varied modes of transportation between Westchester and Rockland
- Named after the ship captained by Henry Hudson in 1609, Half Moon speaks to the region's time-honored nautical history
- Tides of Tarrytown celebrates the legendary history of the village and the changes to its shoreline through the years
You can also enjoy a free audio tour on your phone while walking or biking the path, courtesy of the New York State Thruway Authority. The tours were created by Historic Hudson River Towns and the team from TravelStorys. Download the free TravelStorys app here to enjoy these bridge path tours.
