Sing Sing Prison Museum
The creation of a Sing Sing Prison Museum on the banks of the Hudson in Ossining has long been talked about. The concept is being revived among those who care about Sing Sing’s unique position in the history of the American penal system and who see the museum as a lens through which to view contemporary criminal justice issues. Others are interested in development of the museum because of its tremendous national and international potential as a significant tourist attraction for New York’s Hudson Valley.
Historic Hudson River Towns has contributed staff time and expertise to the development of the Sing Sing Prison Museum. We think it is a truly American story that needs to be told and will be of great economic benefit to our member communities, as well as to the entire Hudson Valley region.

Locally, a great deal of work was accomplished on the project some years ago. A detailed concept plan and marketing study were done, but these have now have been updated by reports prepared by a new set of museum consultants and engineers. An active and committed Board of Trustees has taken the lead in planning and raising funds to move the project forward.
